Understand What's Covered — and What's Not

Boiler Warranty Policy

Licensed & Insured Gas-Certified Technicians Serving Vancouver Since 1999

Your combi boiler warranty is one of the most valuable parts of your purchase. A 15-year heat exchanger warranty can save you $3,000+ on a replacement. But warranties have conditions — and skipping annual maintenance is the number one reason claims are denied.

This guide explains how combi boiler warranties work, what each brand covers, what our labor warranty covers, and how to protect your warranty coverage for the full term.

Manufacturer Warranty vs Labor Warranty

There are two separate warranties on every combi boiler installation:

  • Manufacturer warranty: Covers the boiler unit itself — heat exchanger, components, parts. Duration: 10-15 years heat exchanger, 2-5 years parts, depending on brand. Requires proof of annual professional servicing. Does NOT cover labor to replace defective parts.
  • Labor warranty (ours): Covers the labor to diagnose and replace defective parts under manufacturer warranty. Duration: 1 year standard, extendable to 5 years. Covers the time and skill to swap a failed part — even if the part itself is free under manufacturer warranty.
  • Example: Your Navien heat exchanger fails in year 8. Navien provides a free replacement heat exchanger under warranty — but you'd pay $1,500+ in labor without labor warranty. With our extended labor warranty, that labor is covered.

Warranty Coverage by Brand

Warranties vary significantly by brand. Here's what each major manufacturer covers (as of 2026):

  • Navien: 15 years heat exchanger, 5 years parts, 1 year labor. NCB-E models: 15 years HX, 5 years parts. Requires Navien-trained installer for full warranty.
  • Viessmann: Lifetime heat exchanger (Vitodens 200-W), 10 years (100-W), 2 years parts. Must be registered within 30 days. Viessmann-trained installer recommended.
  • Bosch: 12 years heat exchanger, 5 years parts (Greenstar). Must be installed by licensed contractor. Annual service documentation required.
  • Rinnai: 12 years heat exchanger, 5 years parts, 1 year labor. Registration required within 30 days of installation.
  • Lochinvar: 12 years heat exchanger (Noble, Knight), 5 years parts. Commercial-grade warranties available for cascade systems.

What Voids Your Warranty

These are the most common reasons boiler warranty claims are denied:

  • No proof of annual professional servicing: Every manufacturer requires documented annual maintenance by a licensed gas fitter. Missing even one year can void your heat exchanger warranty.
  • Installation by unlicensed contractor: The warranty is void if the boiler wasn't installed by a licensed, insured gas fitter. Always verify your installer's TSSA/BC licence.
  • Water quality neglect: If system water wasn't treated with inhibitor, or was never flushed, corrosion damage may not be covered. Most manufacturers require system flushing and inhibitor dosing at installation.
  • Improper venting: Using incorrect vent materials or improper termination voids the warranty. All venting must meet manufacturer specifications and BC gas code.
  • Using non-OEM parts: Repairs using generic or aftermarket parts void the warranty. Only genuine OEM parts maintain warranty coverage.
  • Failure to register: Many warranties require registration within 30-90 days of installation. We register every boiler we install — but if you bought elsewhere, check.

This is not a DIY repair

Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
