BC Combi Boiler Rebates & Incentives 2026
Maximize your savings with FortisBC, CleanBC, and federal incentive programs
Upgrading to a high-efficiency condensing combi boiler can cut your natural gas bill by 30% or more — and rebates from FortisBC, CleanBC, and other programs can cover a significant share of the upfront cost. This guide breaks down every rebate and incentive available to BC homeowners, landlords, and businesses in 2026.
Rebate programs are updated annually and some have limited funding that runs out before the year ends. Call us at 778-909-5731 before you buy so we can verify your eligibility and lock in your rebate before funding is exhausted. We handle every application, form, and follow-up — you just enjoy the savings.
Existing FortisBC Natural Gas Customer
If you are already a FortisBC natural gas customer replacing an old boiler, this is the most common scenario — and the one with the clearest rebate path.
- FortisBC Heating System Rebate: Up to $1,000 for installing a qualifying ENERGY STAR certified condensing combi boiler with 95%+ AFUE. This rebate applies to replacements of existing gas boilers or conversions from older mid-efficiency units.
- CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program: Up to $1,000 for space heating upgrades that improve your home's overall energy performance. This can often be combined (stacked) with the FortisBC rebate for total savings of up to $2,000.
- Eligibility: You must be a FortisBC residential natural gas customer, the equipment must be installed by a licensed program-registered contractor, and the unit must meet minimum efficiency requirements. We meet all of these criteria.
New Gas Connection
If your home does not currently have a natural gas connection and you are installing one to accommodate a new combi boiler:
- FortisBC New Home Rebate: Up to $1,200 for new homes connecting to natural gas service with qualifying high-efficiency space and water heating equipment, including combi boilers. This applies to both new construction and homes connecting to gas for the first time.
- Gas Connection Allowance: FortisBC may offer a connection cost allowance that offsets some or all of the cost of running a gas line to your property, depending on your location and proximity to existing gas mains. We can help determine if you qualify.
- CleanBC New Homes Program: Performance-based incentives for new homes that achieve higher steps of the BC Energy Step Code, with bonus amounts for using high-efficiency heating like condensing combi boilers.
Oil or Propane to Natural Gas Conversion
Converting from oil or propane to natural gas is one of the most impactful upgrades you can make — and it comes with dedicated incentives.
- FortisBC Oil-to-Gas Conversion Rebate: Up to $1,500 for homeowners who remove an oil-fired heating system and replace it with a high-efficiency natural gas appliance, including condensing combi boilers. This is a higher rebate amount than the standard replacement program, reflecting the greater environmental benefit.
- Propane-to-Gas Conversion: FortisBC offers rebates for converting from propane to natural gas in areas where gas service is newly available. The specific amount depends on your location and the equipment being installed — call us for a current assessment.
- Additional CleanBC Incentives: CleanBC may offer supplementary incentives for fuel-switching from higher-carbon fuels (oil and propane) to natural gas, stacking with FortisBC rebates. We verify all layers of eligibility before quoting.
- Oil Tank Removal: Removing an underground or above-ground oil tank is a separate cost but may qualify for additional provincial programs. We coordinate with certified tank removal contractors as part of a full conversion project.
Maintenance Rebates
Rebates are not just for new equipment — several programs reward ongoing maintenance and efficiency improvements:
- FortisBC Home Energy Assessment: Free or subsidized energy assessments that identify efficiency opportunities and may pre-qualify you for additional rebates on heating equipment. A pre-installation assessment is a recommended step before booking your combi boiler upgrade.
- Canada Greener Homes Loan: A federal program offering interest-free loans of up to $40,000 for eligible home energy retrofits, including high-efficiency heating equipment. This is a loan, not a grant, but 0% interest is a powerful incentive to upgrade now and pay over time.
- Manufacturer Rebates: Some combi boiler manufacturers run seasonal or promotional rebates that stack with utility and government programs. We monitor these offerings and notify you of any active manufacturer incentives at the time of quoting.
Commercial, Strata & Industrial
For multi-unit residential buildings, commercial properties, and industrial facilities, the rebate landscape is different — and often more generous:
- FortisBC Commercial Energy Savings Program: Custom incentives for commercial and multi-unit residential buildings that install high-efficiency condensing boilers, with rebate amounts based on actual energy savings rather than a fixed dollar amount. These can be substantial for larger buildings.
- FortisBC Strata Energy Advisor Program: Free energy assessments and rebate guidance for strata corporations considering a central boiler plant upgrade. This program includes a dedicated advisor who walks the strata council through the entire process.
- CleanBC Commercial Express Program: Streamlined rebates for small to medium commercial properties upgrading to high-efficiency natural gas heating equipment, with pre-calculated incentive amounts based on equipment type and capacity.
- Cascade and Multi-Boiler Incentives: Higher rebate caps apply to commercial installations that use multiple cascaded boilers for redundancy and efficiency. We design and quote cascade systems that maximize both performance and available incentives.
Eligibility Requirements & How to Apply
- Equipment must be ENERGY STAR certified with a minimum 95% AFUE efficiency rating for condensing boilers.
- Installation must be performed by a licensed gas contractor registered with the rebate program — which we are.
- Some programs require pre-approval before installation starts. We submit these applications first and wait for approval before scheduling work.
- For FortisBC programs, you must be an active FortisBC natural gas customer at the installation address — or be connecting as part of the project.
- Rebate applications require specific documentation: the equipment model and serial number, a commissioning report, a copy of the TSBC permit and inspection certificate, and the contractor's program registration number. We compile and submit all of this.
- Rebates are typically issued as a cheque or account credit within 4-8 weeks of application approval — we track the status and follow up if there are delays.
This is not a DIY repair
Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
