Why a Magnetic Filter Protects Your Combi Boiler
A small device that prevents expensive failures.
A magnetic system filter is fitted to the heating return and captures the magnetic iron-oxide particles that form as the system corrodes. By trapping that sludge before it reaches the boiler, the filter protects the pump and heat exchanger and keeps efficiency high.
Many manufacturers now recommend or require a filter to maintain warranty.
Benefits of a magnetic filter
- Captures sludge before it damages the boiler
- Protects the pump and heat exchanger
- Maintains circulation and even heating
- Often required for warranty compliance
- Simple to service at your annual visit
This is not a DIY repair
Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
