Do I Need a Gas Line Upgrade for a Combi Boiler?

The right gas supply is essential for safe, full-output operation.

Licensed & Insured Gas-Certified Technicians Serving Vancouver Since 1999

High-output combi boilers can demand more gas than an older or undersized supply line can deliver. If the line is too small or already feeding several appliances, your installer may need to upsize it so the boiler can reach full output safely.

Gas-line sizing and upgrades are licensed work and are assessed during your installation quote.

When an upgrade may be needed

  • Replacing a low-output unit with a high-BTU combi
  • An undersized or long existing gas run
  • Multiple appliances sharing one line
  • Adding the boiler to a busy gas system
  • Older homes with legacy pipework

Why it matters

An undersized gas line starves the boiler, causing poor performance, lockouts and inefficiency. Correct sizing ensures safe, full-output operation — which is why we check it before every installation.

This is not a DIY repair

Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
