Combi Boiler Maintenance Checklist
Simple habits that extend your boiler's life.
Most combi boiler maintenance must be done by a licensed technician, but there are a few simple things homeowners can do between annual services to keep the system healthy and catch problems early.
Use this checklist alongside — not instead of — your annual professional service.
Homeowner-safe checks
- Check the pressure gauge monthly (~1–1.5 bar cold)
- Bleed radiators if they're cold at the top
- Keep the area around the boiler clear and ventilated
- Test your CO alarms monthly
- Watch for unusual noises, smells or flame colour
- Keep the outside flue terminal clear
Leave to a professional
Combustion analysis, heat exchanger inspection, flue checks, gas pressure verification, and any internal cleaning or part replacement should be done by a licensed technician at your annual service.
This is not a DIY repair
Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
