Winter Heating Emergency Prep
A little preparation keeps your family safe and comfortable if the heat fails in a cold snap.
BC cold snaps and storms can knock out heat or power. Preparing ahead makes an outage manageable rather than dangerous.
Prepare ahead
Service your heating system before winter, know your shut-offs, keep warm blankets and safe battery/USB heat sources, and have flashlights, a charged power bank, and our number on hand.
During an outage
Layer up, close off unused rooms, protect pipes by keeping some heat and opening cabinet doors, and avoid unsafe heating like ovens or unvented heaters.
Key takeaways
- Service the system before winter
- Keep blankets, lights and a power bank ready
- Know your water and gas shut-offs
- Never heat with ovens or unvented heaters
