Troubleshooting
Smell of Gas Near Your Boiler
Gas smell is an emergency — safety first, diagnosis second.
If you smell gas near your combi boiler, treat it as an emergency. Do not switch anything on or off, do not use phones near the smell, and do not try to find the leak yourself.
Leave the building, leave a door open on the way out, and call your gas utility's 24-hour emergency line from outside. Once the area is made safe, a licensed gas fitter can diagnose and repair the appliance.
Emergency steps
- Leave the building immediately
- Don't operate light switches, plugs or appliances
- Don't use a phone inside the building
- Turn off the gas at the meter only if it's safe to do so on the way out
- Call your gas utility's emergency line from outside
- Don't return until told it's safe
Smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide? Leave now.
If you smell gas, hear hissing, or your CO alarm sounds, leave the building immediately and call your gas utility's emergency line from outside. Do not operate switches or relight the appliance. Once you are safe, call us for a licensed repair.
