Troubleshooting
Boiler Won't Fire for Hot Water
The burner ignores your hot tap.
If the boiler fires for heating but stays silent when you open a hot tap, it isn't detecting the hot water demand. The usual culprits are a faulty flow sensor or turbine, a stuck diverter valve, or low water flow that's below the boiler's activation threshold.
These are internal components requiring licensed repair.
Common causes
- Faulty DHW flow sensor / turbine
- Diverter valve stuck on heating
- Flow rate below activation threshold
- Blocked inlet filter
- Control fault
This is not a DIY repair
Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
