Boiler Corrosion Issues

Licensed & Insured Gas-Certified Technicians Serving Vancouver Since 1999

Corrosion inside your boiler and central heating system is a slow, progressive issue that damages components, reduces efficiency, and eventually leads to leaks and breakdowns. In Vancouver's damp climate, poorly maintained systems are especially vulnerable.

Our licensed technicians diagnose corrosion issues early — checking for rust-colored water, sludge buildup, pinhole leaks, and failing components. We provide treatment options from power flushing and inhibitor dosing to component replacement, always with a fixed written quote.

What Causes Boiler Corrosion

Corrosion happens when oxygen enters the heating system and reacts with ferrous metals (steel radiators, iron pipes). This produces magnetite sludge — a black, gritty deposit that clogs heat exchangers, radiators, and pumps. Poor water quality, lack of inhibitor chemicals, and system leaks all accelerate corrosion.

Our Corrosion Treatment Process

We start with a water sample test to check inhibitor levels and sludge concentration. For moderate corrosion, we perform a power flush to remove sludge and dose fresh inhibitor. For severe cases involving heat exchanger corrosion, we recommend replacement. All work is quoted upfront with no surprises.

This is not a DIY repair

Combi boilers are gas-fired appliances regulated under the BC Safety Standards Act. Opening the unit, touching the gas valve, or working on the flue without a valid BC gas-fitter licence is both unsafe and illegal. Diagnosing the fault is helpful — fixing it should always be left to a certified technician.
